Sermon 8: God’s Commandments – The Fifth Commandment

Ten laws from God were set in stone. Ten laws that God has commanded us to follow. These are the ten laws we must obey in order to stay on the path that leads to Heaven.

These ten laws have needed no amendments, no additions and no repeals. These ten laws were truly revealed to Moses by God.

God's Fifth Commandment

HONOR THY FATHER AND THY MOTHER;

IN ORDER THAT THY DAYS MAY BE PROLONGED UPON THE LAND WHICH THE LORD THY GOD GIVETH THEE.

Back in the second commandment, we are taught the importance of passing down the Laws of God to our descendants, because following these commandments will make your journey to Heaven smoother and straighter. And God makes it easy for us to comply, because He promises that, by doing so, He will show your family mercy for a thousand generations. In this commandment, we are taught that there is equal importance in the receiving of this information, the acceptance of it, and our own duty in passing it on to the generation we will influence.

It is important to God that we appreciate our families, so important that, out of only ten laws, one of them is to honor your parents so that you can have many days with them. Many beneficial days where you can learn from them and accept the inheritance they are giving you. They are teaching you of God and of our purpose in life on earth, and it is important to God that you learn from them because He wants us to enjoy what He created on earth as much as possible, even as you are learning your lessons along the way to Heaven.

We are also reminded in this commandment just how important we are to God. He has created all that we will experience in life on earth and, at the end of our journey, will bless us with the reward of a paradise in Heaven. Your father and mother brought you into being to experience His creations and that is incredibly important. God created the human race out of love and He wants us to continue for countless generations. So, it is important to appreciate that your mother and father gave you life. And, even more important than that, this commandment makes you realize just how valuable that life is.

Pay close attention to what your parents have to teach. God commands it.

Sermon 7: God’s Commandments – The Fourth Commandment

Ten laws from God were set in stone. Ten laws that God has commanded us to follow. These are the ten laws we must obey in order to stay on the path that leads to Heaven.

These ten laws have needed no amendments, no additions and no repeals. These ten laws were truly revealed to Moses by God.

God's Fourth Commandment

REMEMBER THE SABBATH DAY TO KEEP IT HOLY.

SIX DAYS SHALT THOU LABOUR, AND DO ALL THY WORK.

BUT THE SEVENTH DAY IS THE SABBATH IN HONOUR OF THE LORD THY GOD; ON IT THOU SHALT NOT DO ANY WORK, NEITHER THOU, NOR THY SON, NOR THY DAUGHTER, THY MAN-SERVANT, NOR THY MAID-SERVANT, NOR THY CATTLE, NOR THY STRANGER THAT IS WITHIN THY GATES.

FOR IN SIX DAYS THE LORD MADE THE HEAVENS AND THE EARTH, THE SEA, AND ALL THAT IS IN THEM, AND RESTED ON THE SEVENTH DAY; THEREFORE, THE LORD BLESSED THE SABBATH DAY, AND HALLOWED IT.

This commandment is another way God lets us know how important we are to Him and proves how much He loves us. One entire day of the week, one-seventh of our entire lives, is to be completely devoted to our well-being.

First of all, our bodies are important because they are the vessel we inhabit during our earthly path. And our time on earth is important because it is spent learning how to choose the unending goodness of Heaven. In order to not be distracted from these lessons or prolong them, you must take care of your body. And here we learn that your body and your mind must rest and that taking care of ourselves is part of the way to honour God.

Even though the Fall of the Garden of Eden cursed man with the struggle of life on earth, God knows that we can’t thrive without this necessary break. He loves us and wants us to thrive here on earth so He has given us this commandment so we will protect our health with this rest. God loves us so much that this commandment is as important as not killing. Truly, an unhealthy mind and body sabotages our own self and causes many bumps in our path to Heaven.

So, on the seventh day, we all must rest ourselves and gather strength from God for the next week. Everybody together, as all God’s creations are equally loved by Him, including you. And you recharge your mind and body by contemplating what God has done for you. Even if the weight of the world has been upon you for six days, on the seventh you must shrug it off as you remember there is a higher purpose for you. It reminds you that your purpose is solely God’s purpose, that the hurdles you overcome are only the needed lessons that bring you closer to the acceptance of Heaven.
And, everyone worshipping God at once has such a miraculous power, that it will surely undo the emotional, physical and intellectual challenges of the previous week of strife.

Spend a day pumping yourself up with the power that the worship of God gives you. You need it and He wants you to have it. God commands it.

Sermon 6: God’s Commandments – The Third Commandment

Ten laws from God were set in stone. Ten laws that God has commanded us to follow. These are the ten laws we must obey in order to stay on the path that leads to Heaven.

These ten laws have needed no amendments, no additions and no repeals. These ten laws were truly revealed to Moses by God.

God's Third Commandment

THOU SHALT NOT TAKE THE NAME OF THE LORD THY GOD IN VAIN;

FOR THE LORD WILL NOT HOLD HIM GUILTLESS THAT TAKETH HIS NAME IN VAIN.

This commandment is incredibly important for us to remember as we journey toward Heaven. And, while on the path to Heaven, we are learning lessons that push us closer to being a more “heavenly being”. In order to lighten the severity and amount of lesson-learning times in our life, we must try to develop and accept traits that will let us choose and accept Heaven.

The easiest way to become this type of person is to put God’s commandments first and foremost in your personal ranking of most important things to pay attention to every day. The first two commandments have you paying attention to God. Having God first in your thoughts will give you ease along your path to Heaven because having His presence with you during the day will make it simple to recognize good and avoid bad choices. The pull of temptation weakens when confronted by God.

But, remember we are imperfect on earth. This is by design because on earth we learn good through its relation to bad, eventually becoming able to choose an eternity of perfect goodness. This means that we will all experience bad in some way, whether in thought or action.

The third commandment is telling us that, while we have God wrapped around us during the day, God’s power is not to be used at any time when you are not choosing good. God’s power is only to be invoked for good, and when you pray to God or do things in God’s name in ways that bring you closer to acceptance of Heaven, God grants you success. Always.

Taking His name in vain means that you are trying to use the power of God in a negative way. Because God’s power does not work that way, therefore, you have invoked Him in vain, wasted Him. This is breaking a commandment that God holds as important as not killing and reminds you again of the respect and reverence you must have for God.

So, only pray in a positive manner – pray for good for others, pray for tolerance and patience. Prayers are not to be used for the detriment of any of God’s creations – it is breaking a commandment. Do not take God’s power lightly. Do not waste or misuse or misrepresent the name of God. Breaking commandments will make your lessons on earth harder than they need to be.

God gave us these commandments because of His incredible love for us. God wants us to have a path to Heaven filled with great happiness. We are so lucky to be able to learn what is most important by just reading the Bible. Trial and error takes much too long.

Sermon 5: God's Commandments - The Second Commandment

Ten laws from God were set in stone. Ten laws that God has commanded us to follow. These are the ten laws we must obey in order to stay on the path that leads to Heaven.

These ten laws have needed no amendments, no additions and no repeals. These ten laws were truly revealed to Moses by God.

God's Second Commandment

THOU SHALT NOT MAKE UNTO THYSELF ANY GRAVEN IMAGE, OR ANY LIKENESS OF ANY THING THAT IS IN HEAVEN ABOVE, OR THAT IS ON THE EARTH BENEATH, OR THAT IS IN THE WATER UNDER THE EARTH.

THOU SHALT NOT BOW DOWN THYSELF DOWN TO THEM, NOR SERVE THEM; FOR I THE LORD THY GOD AM A JEALOUS GOD, VISITING THE INIQUITY OF THE FATHERS UPON THE CHILDREN, UNTO THE THIRD AND FOUTH GENERATION OF THEM THAT HATE ME;

AND SHOWING MERCY UNTO THE THOUSANDTH GENERATION OF THEM THAT LOVE ME AND KEEP MY COMMANDMENTS.

This commandment shows us more of the omnipotence (all-powerfulness) of God. First of all, He is telling us He is different from everything. He is omnipresent, present everywhere simultaneously. He cannot be represented in an image because He is unlike anything in our experience. He is nothing we can see in the sky, on the ground or under the waters. He is All, He is Everything, and He is unable to be perceived. He is the ONE TRUE GOD.

God is also telling us that the mechanics of worship and obedience are easy. You do not need to have some kind of physical idol or symbol with you, or go to a place where these symbols are. You do not need to differentiate who you go to for help. God is telling us that He is all we really need to know! He is totally accessible to you at any time, directly from your thoughts to God’s ear.

God does not say that we should bow down to Him instead. God asks only to be LOVED and OBEYED. He punishes lightly and rewards greatly for it. This commandment reveals an awareness that knowledge and attitudes are passed down from your parents and other ancestors. But, He is telling us that, while hateful expressions only last several generations, loving expressions can endure for thousands. God loves us. God forgives us.

Love God openly, whenever and wherever. Be slow to anger and quick to forgive. He is. God wants your redemption and does not want to punish us. Heaven is waiting for you and it is a place where there is no hatred and complete forgiveness. Practicing these traits will smooth out the ‘bumps’ in your path to Heaven.

And God makes it so easy for us – love Him and follow his Commandments. Heavenly traits will naturally develop.
