Sermon 10: God’s Commandments – The Seventh Commandment

Ten laws from God were set in stone. Ten laws that God has commanded us to follow. These are the ten laws we must obey in order to stay on the path that leads to Heaven.

These ten laws have needed no amendments, no additions and no repeals. These ten laws were truly revealed to Moses by God.

God's Seventh Commandment

THOU SHALT NOT COMMIT ADULTERY

This commandment is important in two ways. One, it show you more of how important your family is and two, it shows you how much God loves you and wants to protect your happiness.

While Adam lived in the Garden of Eden, a paradise on earth, he remained unfulfilled until God created Eve. He was unfulfilled in two ways that a mate satisfied. One, was the ability to create offspring, which is absolutely necessary for the survival of the human race, God’s loving creation. Two, and this is the reason why God didn’t make it possible for man to continue his bloodline on his own, is that Adam needed companionship. Our desire for another human being is so intense, that a minimum of two people is vital to the survival of the human race for other reasons than the biological function of mating and producing children. We need close, constant contact with other human beings for our happiness, which keeps our body healthy on our earthly journey.

So, we must have love. We find that what fulfills that need is a partner through life, someone other than friends and casual acquaintances, someone to become a family with. God is commanding our loyalty to this family unit. That is why we are warned of the need to be committed to the person you choose to unite with as family. And, since our survival is God’s desire, it proves that to continue the human race, you must pass on a heritage of strong family ties. You must not stray from your family.

Loving someone creates great happiness. So, conversely, great pain can be caused by the ones you love the most. Adultery creates great pain. Not only from a loss of the close bond you had previously enjoyed with your partner, but from breaking the bonds of your family. And, the family unit is vital to your survival. God loves you and doesn’t want you to suffer with agonizing feelings of abandonment, betrayal, and self-worthlessness. He wants us to follow this rule so we understand that keeping our family happy, keeps us healthy by avoiding these hurtful feelings.

God created the commandment against adultery for our benefit, so we can concentrate on an undisrupted path to Heaven. You must treat your family unit as reverentially as you would another human being’s life. Do it and you will receive greater health and happiness in your life. God says so.
