Sermon 11: God’s Commandments – The Eighth Commandment
Ten laws from God were set in stone. Ten laws that God has commanded us to follow. These are the ten laws we must obey in order to stay on the path that leads to Heaven.
These ten laws have needed no amendments, no additions and no repeals. These ten laws were truly revealed to Moses by God.
God's Eighth Commandment
THOU SHALT NOT STEAL.
Everyone is on their own path to Heaven, just as you are on yours. You are expected to learn the lessons along your path, just as everyone else is learning lessons along theirs. This commandment is twofold in that it commands you not to take anything away from another person’s journey on earth, while commanding you to travel your path with only what you earn yourself, only what God gives you.
You may not think that stealing is quite the offense that murder is, but you will never know what consequences may come as the result of your theft. Because of this, you cannot justify yourself by saying, “Hey, I’m just a robber, not a murderer”. Maybe your theft of a dollar out of someone’s car causes that person to not be able to buy a bottle of juice that prevents them from going into diabetic coma. Maybe your theft of a family heirloom causes someone to sink into such a depression that they commit suicide. Maybe your bank robbery causes someone to have a heart attack. You must not steal from anyone, no matter how small the theft appears to you.
God is the One who gives you what you need to complete your journey to the acceptance of Heaven. You cannot decide to take something that you did not earn, and stay on a smooth path to Heaven. You should not take from others because each step of our path is a necessary learning experience, we must make our own way on earth.
Taking something undeservedly will set you back on your path because it gives you one more lesson to learn, another hurdle to overcome.
One lesson that must be learned before you can accept Heaven is tolerance of the path’s of other people. You must let them have their own journey without your interference. You must not take what is theirs.
God loves you. He will give you everything you need, when you need it. You must not steal from others because God has given them those things along their own journey. When you steal from others, you are stealing directly from God. Don’t do it – you’ve been warned.
